A step by step guide and tips for renting property in the UAE

Get in touch

We are excited that you are ready to begin your property search in the UAE! The first step is to let us know that you are looking and what your requirements are, so that we can share relevant information with you to suit your criteria and keep you updated on the market and your options.

You can indicate your interest in specific properties you find on our website, or you can simply register your details at www.ascotandco.com for an agent to contact you. You can also visit our office in Motor City or call +971 800 ASCOT.

Prepare your documents

In order to rent you will need certain documents, so it is important to have the following ready: your passport, visa (or visa in process letter) and personal cheques, bank transfers or company cheques. If your company is renting on your behalf, you will also require the company trade license, the passport of the company signatory and power of attorney of the company signatory.

View properties

If you are new to Dubai, or you are thinking of moving to a new area, our experienced agents are knowledgeable about locations and properties in the city, so they will be able to advise you throughout your search. Once you know the criteria that are important to you, our agents will find suitable properties and accompany you to viewings until you find your perfect home.

Final agreement

When you have found your ideal place, we will write a tenancy contract for you and the landlord to sign and you can agree on a suitable date to move in. Upon signing the tenancy contract we will require the cheques for your rent (the number required depends on your agreement with the landlord), a cheque for your holding deposit and a cheque for your agency fee.

Once your contract is signed, you must register with Ejari to legalise the tenancy and then register with DEWA (The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority). You can apply for Ejari online or bring the tenancy contract, title deed, owner’s visa copy, your passport and visa copies and Emirates ID copy to a registered Ejari Typing Centre. You can register with DEWA online or visit a DEWA office with your Ejari registration, title deed, the owner’s passport and visa copy and your own passport and visa copy.

Time to move in!

Congratulations! Once you have set up DEWA, your home will be ready to move in to. We hope you love it. We are happy to help you if you decide to move again in the future.
